Joanna believes in the power of sport to inspire, show leadership and positively influence agendas much wider than competition and is particularly passionate about sport showing leadership around environmental sustainability. Joanna joined Think Beyond from the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee where she was part of their sustainability team, taking a leading role in delivering the Games carbon management approach and carbon footprint measurement, as well as supporting a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Joanna also worked on developing an athlete engagement programme for those interested in sustainability, as well as developing Carbon Literacy training specifically for the sports sector. Most recently Joanna worked on developing the options for NGB environmental sustainability support across The Alliance cluster of NGBs with a hands-on and proactive approach to the role. Now Joanna is working on our LIV Golf, FA, and Sail GP projects.
In her former roles, Joanna has had various experience working with UK Sport on a carbon footprint methodology project, to co-authoring a “Building sustainability into Major Event delivery” guide specifically for UK Sport. Jo studied Geography at the University of Bristol and is also a former Great Britain and England hockey player, who was part of the UK Sport-funded World Class Programme for the Rio 2016 Cycle.
