Joanna believes in the power of sport to inspire, show leadership and positively influence agendas much wider than competition and is particularly passionate about sport showing leadership around environmental sustainability. Joanna joined Think Beyond from the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee where she was part of their sustainability team, taking a leading role in delivering the Games carbon management approach and carbon footprint measurement, as well as supporting a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Joanna also worked on developing an athlete engagement programme for those interested in sustainability, as well as developing Carbon Literacy training specifically for the sports sector.
For Think Beyond, Joanna leads the day-to-day project management and technical support, with The FA and the environmental sustainability pillar of our work with LIV Golf. In addition, Joanna also supports on a variety of other technical and events-based projects, with recent examples including reviewing and updating the IOC’s carbon footprint methodology for the Olympic and Paralympic Games for the IOC and working with the local organising committee for the World Athletics Indoor Championships, Glasgow.
In her former roles, Joanna has had various experience working with UK Sport on a carbon footprint methodology project, to co-authoring a “Building sustainability into Major Event delivery” guide specifically for UK Sport. Jo studied Geography at the University of Bristol and is also a former Great Britain and England hockey player, who was part of the UK Sport-funded World Class Programme for the Rio 2016 Cycle.
